Anja Rubik, Polish supermodel and activist
Anja Rubik is a model born in Poland in 1983, raised in South Africa where her parents worked as veterinarians. She was fifteen years old when she arrived in Paris and walked the catwalk for the first time for Chanel, during the school summer holidays. Two years after the big opportunity that started her modeling career. With a trick, pretending to be lost, she arrived at the studio of Inez & Vinoodh. Attracting the attention of Inez, who took a polaroid of her, she began her career in the fashion world. Two days later she was shooting for Chloé.
At the age of nineteen, after finishing her studies in a bilingual school in Paris, she decided to move to New York. Then the advertising campaigns from Gucci, Fendi and especially for Saint Laurent began, being the muse and friend of Anthony Vaccarello.
Rubik: model activist
Anja Rubik is committed to defending Polish women’s rights. Her biggest project is the Sexed.pl Foundation, born in 2017 as a response to the almost absolute cancellation of sex education courses in Polish schools. The aim of the project is to inform adolescents about issues related to sexual relations and to speak freely about the LGBTQ+ community, issues that the local Catholic Church demonizes.
In 2020, in response to abortion restrictions imposed in her country, Vogue Poland invited Anja to create a photo shoot herself. Three strong and raw covers were created, claiming the right of every woman to have control of her own body.
She is also a consultant and ambassador for Parley for the Oceans, an environmental NGO that fights for the protection of the oceans.
