Anthony Vaccarello
Belgian-born designer Anthony Vaccarello began his education in law school but dropped out after a year. In 2000, he enrolled at La Cambre in Brussels to study sculpture, becoming interested in garment construction through Rei Kawakubo at Comme des Garçons and Azzedine Aläia.
In 2006, Vaccarello placed first at the Hyères International Festival of Fashion and Photography. That award-winning collection also attracted the attention of Karl Lagerfeld, who offered him a position designing for Fendi’s fur line.
Anthony Vaccarello Label
In 2008, Vaccarello moved back to Paris and launched his label, which won the 2011 ANDAM prize, and generated global buzz when the model Anja Rubik wore a revealing white Anthony Vaccarello dress to the 2012 Met Ball. The emerging designer quickly gained an all-star lineup of followers, including Jennifer Lopez, Miley Cyrus, and Alessandra Ambrosio.
Vaccarello and Versus
In 2014, the designer collaborated with Versus, Versace‘s younger sister brand, on a capsule collection, eventually becoming a creative director. In January 2015, the designer named as creative director at Versus Versace. Versus’s retail sales more than doubled compared to the previous year, while wholesale revenues rose 21.4 percent.
Vaccarello and Yves Saint Laurent
In April 2016, designer Anthony Vaccarello was assigned with continuing Hedi Slimane’s massive success at Yves Saint Laurent, where he took up the creative director’s role.
In his role at Yves Saint Laurent, Vaccarello is responsible for its womenswear and menswear lines. Vaccarello has steered Slimane’s Los Angeles based Saint Laurent back towards Parisian chic aesthetic. Playing on the original Laurent’s style philosophy, the designer crafted his version of the Saint Laurent woman and androgynous menswear that has seen sales rise double digits in the quarters following his appointment.
Spring 2017 Ready-to-wear
Anthony Vaccarello chose to hold his debut show for Saint Laurent in a former monastery that has been located in Paris’s heart and is now being restored as the Saint Laurent headquarters.
Fall/Winter 2019 Collection
The designer reinterpreted the brand’s most emblematic silhouettes, mainly; the strong tailoring focused on the shoulders, from Yves Saint Laurent’s “Scandal” collection 1971 and “Opium” moment. By the runway’s finale, models were walking through a mirrored kaleidoscopic set, dressed in glow-in-the-dark looks highlighted by a black light unveiling the contemporary, effortless aspect of Saint Laurent’s soul.
Summer 2020 collection
With Saint Laurent Summer 2020 collection, Anthony Vaccarello imagines the spirit of Rive Gauche. He pays homage to all the cult moments of the Maison and its legendary creations: from tailored men’s tuxedos for her to deluxe hippy looks, which Vaccarello systematically rearranges, revises, and re-proposes for a new generation of followers.
Spring Summer 2021 collection
The latest Spring Summer collection 2021 by Saint Laurent is launched with the new innovative ways for fashion runways after covid-19. “Wish you were here” is the message that Anthony Vaccarello sends to the public. The collection was launched with a hypnotic film by longtime creative accomplice Nathalie Canguilhem.
