Barbato, Gianni
Gianni Barbato is an Italian fashion designer, specialized in footwear, who partnered with many important brands.
His history
Born in Naples in 1953, he learnt his professione from the most renowned shoemakers of the area and, in 1984, he started workin on his own: he created innovative shoes, hand-sewed, and he looked for innovative solutions, such as the use of kangaroo leather for uppers, also combined with other materials, and the use of ivory horns for some heels. He was able to combine luxury leathers and materials which aren’t usually used in shoes: in this way he created vanguard items.
Eclectic experimenter, he was the first one to revamp the Texan boot; in the years he partnered with many companies, such as Casadei, Moncler, Dondup, Giorgio Armani, Haider Ackermann, Stuart Weitzman, Premiata, Sergio Rossi and Fendi. Present in the most important footwear stores in the world (in the high price range), from Paris to New York, from Londo to Tokyo, in 1995 he founded the Serbatoio s.r.l. company, based in Civitanova Marche; later he founded the brand which is named after him, and which had such a international success that its items were worn, among the others, by Madonna, Zucchero and Vasco Rossi.
The new path of Gianni Barbato
Since 2009 the brand has produced comfortable sneakers for free time; in 2010 kidswear collections were born too. In 2010 he also founded Barbato Design Studio, a creative place which reunites shoes and garments fashion designers and which offers international stylistic consultations.
In 2011 Serbatoio s.r.l. went bankrupt and the brand was acquires by an Asian investor, who revamped internationally revamped it and who, in 2012, inaugurated its new showroom in Milan, in via Sant’Andrea 2.
