PARK, SOHEE

SOHEE PARK, HAUTE-COTURE DESIGNER FOR THE STARS

Sohee Park is a South Korean designer born in Seoul, in 1998. She is mainly a Women’s wear designer based in London. Graduating from Central Saint Martins, Park mentions how it challenged her to come out of her comfort zone and grow as a designer. She graduated in 2020, along with Yasmin Atta and Harris Reed.

“I wanted to challenge myself, and I’ve always been so ambitious, so if my parents are paying loads of money for me to study abroad, I’d rather study at the best school I can,”

From a young age, it seemed that Sohee Park would be destined for a career in fashion — even if she didn’t quite know it yet. Her mother was a prominent children’s book illustrator and she wanted to continue in her footsteps. But it was a chance viewing of a Chanel fashion show on TV in 2012 that flipped a switch for the young creative.

THE GIRL IN FULL BLOOM

Park’s debut collection is titled, “The Girl in Full Bloom”. As part of her graduation collection, it was a difficult delivery. Being in between the pandemic, Park had to move her construction to her apartment. With limited availability, she depended on Skype and shipping for all her materials.

Due to the pandemic, she could not have a traditional fashion show. Instead, she released a series of pictures of her collection. Regardless of the struggles, Sohee has quickly become a couture designer on the rise. Her creations have been featured on the cover of Billboard, LOVE Magazine’s seminal A/W 2020 issue, and in Dazed, Vogue, Elle, Vanity Fair, W, and L’officiel (to name a few).

DESIGN AESTHETIC

Her designs draw a lot of inspiration from nature, and the femineity of the woman. Her works have become commonly known, for voluminous gowns, eye-catching prints, and floral embellishments.

While Sohee has become increasingly popular, she has not sacrificed her quality and heart. She is passionate about sustainability. Especially is eco-conscious in her creations. Significantly, she attempts to resource through deadstock and recycled materials.

“Being sustainable is a responsibility for emerging designers. It’s why I’m drawn to haute couture – there’s no mass production and only what is necessary is used.”

Especially passionate about making custom designs, particularly for celebrities. And her career has surely taken off as her designs have now been worn by not just Miley Cyrus but also models such as Bella Hadid, Naomi Campbell, and Munroe Bergdorf.

Other starlets who have worn MISS SOHEE creations are Belle Thorne, Ariana Grande, and CardiB.
