The six colleges of th London Institute

Established in 1986, the London Institute, or University of the Arts London,  represents a group of six London art colleges: Camberwell College of Arts, Central Saint Martins, Chelsea College of Arts, London College of Communication, London College of Fashion and Wimbledon College of Arts.

The Institute was conceived with the intention of creating a unified managerial system and, at the same time, with the hope of strengthening the image and the productivity of the fashion colleges, though each still remains independent in its management, course structure, selection of teachers, and students. Since 1993 they have all been certified as universities. Among their most famous graduates there are: John Galliano, Rifat Ozbek, Stella McCartney, Bruce Oldfield, Katharine Hamnett, Hussein Chalayan, and Alexander McQueen.
