PYER MOSS, THE BRAND FOUNDED BY KERBY JEAN-RAYMON
Pyer Moss is a brand founded by Kerby Jean-Raymond in New York in 2013. Importantly, the brand wants to be an artistic project. “A timely social experiment”, that aims at using its voice to challenge social narratives and evoke a dialogue.

THE ORIGINS
Born in Brooklyn, Kerby Jean-Raymond attended the High School of Fashion Industries in Manhattan between 2000 and 2004. Hired for an internship by Hay Unger, he later worked for Marchesa, with Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, and for Marc Jacobs as a freelance designer.
The decision to found his own brand, whose name is a tribute to his mother’s surname, arrived in 2013. Subsequently, in a short time Pyer Moss became important in the luxury streetwear panorama.

As a result, in 2014 he won the Fashion Group International Rising Star Award in the menswear category, and the following year Forbes inserted him in the Forbes 30 Under 30 chart. In 2020, instead, Cfda awarded him as menswear designer of the year, after assigning him, the Fashion Found in 2017 (of the value of 400,000 dollars), the award established by the Cfda with the intention of offering support to emerging talents in American design.
His work is marked by an important thread, the vindication of the role of black people in shaping American history. So with his garments (produced in New York, Italy and Portugal) that transmit precise messages, Pyer Moss became the promoter of the new course of US fashion, among inclusiveness and sustainability.
Kerby Jean-Raymond also conceived Your Friends, the platform created with the support of the Kering, group to encourage and support the growth of emerging designers. In 2020 he was named global creative director of Reebok.
THE DEBUT IN PARIS HAUTE COUTURE
In 2020 Pyer Moss debuted in Paris’s haute couture calendar: Kerby Jean-Raymond became the first African American designer to debut in the elitist calendar of Fedèration de la Haute Couture et de la Mode. A fashion show organized at Villa Lewaro, a Palladian estate in Irvington, owned by Madam CJ Walker, the daughter of slaves who became the first self-made millionaire woman in the United States.
