Printemps

Printemps is a Parisian department store born in 1865.

History

Printemps was born in 1865 from the experience of Jules Jaluzot (former supervisor at Bon Marché chain) and from his alliance with Jean-Alfred Duclos. Although it was created after its rivals Bon Marché and Galéries Lafayette, it was able to reduce the gap.

After a fire in 1892, a bigger and more equipped branch was created. At the beginning of ‘900, it opened a section dedicated to furnitures and pieces of furniture. In 2000 the department store launched the Citadium label, oriented toward young people between 15 and 25 years-old and whose offering goes from streetwear to sneakers, from accessories to brands’ gadgets.

The owning group, PPR, also owns La Redoute, brand specialized in correspondence sales. In 2006 Printemps department stores are sold from PPR to a group including RREEF (the real estate branch of Deutsche Bank) and Maurizio Borletti, owner of La Rinascente.

In 2020, due to the economic crisis caused by COVID-19, Printemps was forced to close 7 points of sale, including 7 Printemps (Paris Place d’Italie, Le Havre, Strasbourg and Metz) and 3 Citadium (Paris Champs Élysées, Paris Nation and Tolone).

But, during the lockdown, the department store refurbished and, in September 2021, re-opened to the public, after 50 years, his top floor, dedicated to sustainability. There you can find François Paris creations, Tilli‘s restoration service, Docteur Sneaker‘s specialists in footwear restorations, Brut‘s work pieces, kidswear brand Bonage and Relique‘s vintage upcycled pieces; moreover, there’s also enough space to make 9 fashion start-ups (which change every 2/3 months) expose their creations and to show to the public a selection of rare designer clothes.
