Le Bon Marché

Le bon Marché is the oldest of the Paris department stores. Founded in 1852 by Aristide Boucicaut, 25 years later it had become the largest retail store in the world. Its characteristics of free entrance, fixed and marked prices, and a continuous supply of goods were once innovative but are now common. It was originally called Au Bon Marché and inspired Zola to write his book Au Bonheur des Dames. When it was bought and relaunched by the Group Agaghe in 1987, it turned the Au into.

In 1984 LVMH bought the department store, three years later a major renovation began. In 1988 a subsidiary of Bon Marché Rive Gauche dedicated to the food sector was opened. It’s called La Grande Epicerie de Paris, and in 2017 it found space in a second store on Rue de Passy.
