PETER LINDBERGH, REDEFINED IMAGERY BEYOND THE BOUNDARIES OF BLACK AND WHITE WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPHY.

Peter Lindbergh was born in Leszno, Poland in 1944. He spent his childhood in Duisburg. He enrolled in the Berlin Academy of Fine Arts in the early 1960s. It was in 1971, when he moved to Dusseldorf, that he picked up photography. Consequently moving to Paris in 1978, to pursue a career in the same.

During the 1980’s he offered a new interpretation of women. He took away the attention from the clothes and focused on the woman herself. The journalist, Suzy Menkes once described Lindbergh’s work as,

“Refusing to bow to glossy perfection is Peter Lindbergh’s trademark – the essence of the images that look into each person’s unvarnished soul, however familiar or famous the sitter.”

He was a sought-after photographer in the 1990s. The January 1990 cover of British Vogue, featuring all the top models of that time is one of his more remarkable works. Best known, for his simple yet revealing portraits, he has worked with many big names in the industry. Notably, including stars such as Angelina Jolie, Penelope Cruz, Emma Watson, Naomi Campbell, etc.
