Clivio

Textile factory established in 1918 to manufacture silk for ties, either striped, diapered, printed, or shadow moiré. The founders, Francis Clivio and his brother-in-law Carlo Longoni, executed the first designs for the ties themselves, and then had them produced in the weaving mills at Como, Giussano (Mi), Fino Mornasco (Co), and Minoprio (Co), which were acquired between 1919 and 1921. During the 1930s they began to concentrate on silk and rayon at the plant in Como. In 1934, after the death of Francis Clivio, his widow and the Longoni family continued the business. Starting in the early 1960s, Franco Longoni found himself alone at the head of the company, and decided first to move the printing mill next to the weaving mill and later to sell it to a company, Stamperia Smart, of which he himself was one of the partners. In 1989, the Francis Clivio company was taken over by Dante Prini Spa.
