Tancredi

Franco (1922-1989). President of the Centro di Firenze per la Moda Italiana from 1967 till 1987, he was one of the chief masterminds behind the initial development of the international fashion fairs that are held in Florence. In 1967 he contributed to the planning and organization of the first Italian women’s prêt-à-porter event (Pitti Donna). In the years that followed, he encouraged the creation of such other events as Pitti Uomo (1972), Pitti Bimbo (1975), Pitti Filati (1977) and Pitti Casa (1978). With the Associazione Industriali dell’Abbigliamento and with the Magliecalze association he reached in 1983 an agreement for cooperation that led to the creation of EMI-Ente Moda Italia (he chaired it until 1989) for the promotion of Italian fashion overseas and the organization of specialized events in conjunction with the Pitti events. Tancredi also played a decisive role in the critical phase that the Florentine fashion events traversed in the first half of the 1980s, that is, before taking on in 1988 the name of Pitti Immagine and inaugurating a new season of international successes and broad approval from the leading protagonists of the Italian fashion industry.
