Tam

Vivienne Tam. Chinese fashion designer. Born in Canton in China, she moved to Hong Kong at the age of three. The dual cultural exposure can be clearly detected in her work, an expression of an original encounter between the Oriental and the Occidental. Immediately after taking her undergraduate degree at the Hong Kong Polytechnic, she went to New York where, in 1994 she launched her griffe and staged a runway presentation of her first oriental-style Collection. In 1995 came her Collection inspired by Mao, and 1997 another Collection dedicated to Buddha. The impact was so original and modern that it won over celebrities and fan around the world. Some of her creations became so famous that they were included in the permanent archives of various museums, from the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh to the Metropolitan and FIT in New York, and finally the Victoria and Albert in London.
