Moiré
17 September 2012
Monotone textile in silk, cotton, rayon, or acetate with a wavy surface effect, like the veins and striations of marble. It is pressed between two metal cylinders, which flatten some threads while leaving others intact. This results in an optical reflection of chiaroscuro that changes with the light. It is used mainly for blouses, skirts, and evening gowns.
