Springs

Alice (1923). Pseudonym of Australian photographer June Brown. She met and married Helmut Newton when she was working as a model. At the beginning of the 1960s, when the couple settled in Paris, she taught herself photography and once stood in for her husband when he was ill. From then on she focused on fashion photography (she was published in Elle, Marie Claire, Vogue and Vogue Homme) and, from 1976, on portraits of artists and celebrities, whom she photographed in their own environment. She took these portraits for magazines such as Egoïste, Vanity Fair, Stern, and Interview, and they were often accompanied by specially made video stills. She often collaborated with Helmut Newton: together they created the touring exhibition Us and Them.
