American two-tone shoe: black-and-white or brown-and-white. Demonstrating extreme elegance in terms of color, this shoe was originally part of the sporting wardrobe. It is also known as a correspondent shoe. They were first worn in the 1920s and stayed in fashion until the end of the 1930s, later enjoying a revival in the 1960s. Spectators were worn by literary figures, such as the Great Gatsby, and by the stars of the silver screen such as Douglas Fairbanks and William Powell. The journalist Eugenio Scalfari, founder of the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, loves them.
