Pieter Mulier, Belgian designer appointed in 2021 as the new creative director of Azzedine Alaïa.

Born in Belgium, Mulier studied architecture at the Institut Saint-Luc in Brussels, a path that, carried out from 1999 to 2003, has influenced both the creative, minimal and plastic vision. Since then Mulier has become Simons’ right-hand man, faithful collaborator, creative mind, executor and confidant of the well-known Belgian designer.

He worked within the company until 2010 (as Right Hand and Senior Designer), then in 2005 when Raf Simons took over the creative direction of Jil Sander, Mulier followed him and officially became a creative consultant and designer of the accessories line.

In 2012 Dior’s turn arrived. His work in the fashion house was highlighted in the movie Dior and I of 2014. Attentive, reserved and sensitive, he was appointed head of the tailoring studio of the historic French maison. An experience that ended in 2015 when the creative couple arrived at Calvin Klein, officially debuting with the Fall / Winter 2017 collection. In 2018 Raf Simon left Calvin Klein and dedicated himself to his homonymous label, before arriving in Prada.

AZZEDINE ALAÏA

In 2021 Pieter Mulier was appointed artistic director of Azzedine Alaïa. A difficult task, to turn the spotlight back on a brand full of history and expectations. At the debut show, Pieter Mulier wrote a letter which he placed on every chair in the parterre:

“Dear Azzedine, This collection wants is a tribute to thank you, to express my sincere respect and recognition for the work you have done . I tried to enter your mind, yet it is impossible . We met but I never had the opportunity to get to know you. Now I have the opportunity to thank you.”
