Philippe Starck (1949), French architect and designer
For Wolford, Philippe Starck created the six-combination dress tights; for K.Way, the Wet Duke Starck waterproof jacket and, with Technogel for the Otto Block shoemaker, polyurethane soles covered with a three-dimensional fabric.
He was born in Paris, the son of an aircraft manufacturer. At the age of 20, he was the artistic director of Pierre Cardin. He travels the world, settles in the United States, and returns to France in ’76. He designed Les Bains Douches, a famous nightclub, and, in 1984, the Café Coste next to the Beaubourg, the Balmain and Dorothée Bis showrooms, and Franµois Mitterand’s apartment at the Elysée. Among his objects, were a juicer for Alessi , toothbrushes for Fluocaril, and a motorcycle for Aprilia.
Create a series of watches for Fossil. The Eurostar, the high-speed train, has appointed Philippe Starck as artistic director, allocating at least 115 billion lire for the restyling. He designs a line of bags, backpacks, and briefcases for Samsonite. He held the position of professor at the Domus Academy in Milan and at the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
