Patchwork

Patchwork is a method of assembling scraps of fabric, mixing different patterns and pieces to create real works of art. The American quilts from the early 1800s are particularly beautiful, often with naïf or romantic designs. In the 1940s knitted patchworks also became popular, although they were never as interesting as the fabric designs. In the 1960s the concept of patchwork spread to ethnic-inspired, knitted or fabric garments, like Missoni’s “put together” clothes.
