Museum fur Kunst und Gewerbe

Hamburg, Germany. The dress and textile collection originated with the founding of the museum in 1877. Originally it was an archive that documented local art and handicrafts. Today there are around 22,000 examples of costume, accessories, and textiles. Apart from some a few finds dating to the 16th century, the collection ranges from the 18th century to the present day. Since the 1970s the collection of fashion has become one of the museum’s priorities.
