Montreal, Québec. A museum dedicated to the history of Montreal and Québec. The clothing and textile department holds about 16,000 pieces. It collects men’s, women’s and children’s clothing and accessories produced locally. Most of the garments date back to the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The oldest object is a hand-painted silk wedding dress from the nineteenth century. The textile collection includes the oldest American patchwork quilt (1726) and the oldest Canadian embroidery (1764).
