French manufacturer established in 1929 and successfully directed by Albert Lempereur (1904), the grandson of a craftsman in the Parisian neighborhood of Marais, where the vast majority of clothing craftsmen and manufacturers are based. The term prêt-à-porter was coined by him as a literal translation of ready-to-wear, an expression he had discovered on a study trip to the United States after the war.
