Stadtmuseum
3 May 2013
Set up after the fall of the Berlin Wall, this museum brings together the Berlin Museum and the Markisches Museum. It boasts a collection of some 10,000 garments and accessories, nearly all of which were produced dressmakers or manufacturers in East and West Berlin in the 20th century. Its collection is an invaluable source when trying to reconstruct the history of German haute couture and ready-to-wear since the war. Its archive constitutes a rare collection of information and documents the communist fashion system, from design to production to distribution, during the period 1952 to1990.
