Stadtmuseum

Set up after the fall of the Berlin Wall, this museum brings together the Berlin Museum and the Markisches Museum. It boasts a collection of some 10,000 garments and accessories, nearly all of which were produced dressmakers or manufacturers in East and West Berlin in the 20^th century. Its collection is an invaluable source when trying to reconstruct the history of German haute couture and ready-to-wear since the war. Its archive constitutes a rare collection of information and documents the communist fashion system, from design to production to distribution, during the period 1952 to1990.
