Leddi

Colomba (1963). Milanese designer. She attended the Conservatory Giuseppe Verdi and graduated from the Marangoni Institute. In the early 1980s she started working with several designers, one of whom was Nanni Strada. In 1992 she joined the “Frammenti” group founded by Ada Lusena (a designer who worked with Walter Albini and Romeo Gigli). After four years she opened her own atelier in the yard of an old building in Via Rovere. Her collections are independent of any trends or fashion; they are based on forms and materials inspired by different epochs and cultures that she reinterprets. It is a new way to consider the tailoring profession: starting from a predefined base, there are several variables that determine the choice of fabrics and colors to suit a customer’s taste and needs. Her creations are often one-off pieces manufactured following traditional methods. She follows her own ideas, mixing traditional patterns with an oriental inspiration, creating caftans and embroidered jackets with contrasting linens. She uses details such as high-quality embroidery wisely. She is very careful in the materials she uses: cotton gauzes, Indian silks, linen, and cotton for the Summer, velvet, coarse Scottish wools, and jacquard fabrics for the Winter. In March 2002 Colomba Leddi’s Fall-Winter 2002 collections were presented at the seventeenth Parisian Workshop, together with ten other up-and-coming names in Italian fashion. In October 2003 she was at White Milano, the event organized by Superstudiopiù that focuses on womenswear and accessories.
