Kylie Kristen Jenner is an American influencer, model and entrepreneur, founder of the Kylie Cosmetics brand

Jenner Kylie is an American influencer, model and entrepreneur, founder and CEO of the Kylie Cosmetics brand. She was born on the 10th of August 1997 in Los Angeles.

She became famous thanks to the TV show of E! Keeping up with the Kardashians, where she participated from an early age alongside her older brothers and sisters Kendall Jenner, Kim Kardashian, Khloè, Kourtney, Rob and with her mother Kris Jenner. Jenner was born from Kris’ second marriage to TV personality Caitlyn Jenner, at birth William Bruce Jenner, a former athlete.

Kylie Jenner, the debut in the world of fashion

Kylie Jenner took her first steps in the entertainment world in 2007, appearing in the Kardashian family’s reality TV show with her older sister, now a supermodel, Kendall Jenner.

Later, the youngest of the Kardashian sisters made her debut as a model in 2010, with the Sears line “Crush Your Style”, while in 2011 she paraded at the New York Fashion Week for Avril Lavigne’s “Abby Dawn” collection. In 2012, however, Kylie Jenner began to cultivate her entrepreneurial spirit alongside her sister, with whom she opened a teen line for spring 2012 under the Canada’s Majestic Mills brand. The collaboration with Kendall Jenner continued in 2013, with the launch of Pacsun, a brand that offers women’s, men’s and unisex collections.

Her work in fashion continued in 2015, when Kylie and Kendall got back together to collaborate with Topshop for a collection that includes jackets, chiffon dresses and t-shirts. She took part in the show of her brother-in-law Kayne West during New York Fashion Week, and in the same year she launched OPI’s “Kardashian Kolors” nail polish line together with his sisters.  In October 2015, Kylie made her debut in music by participating in one of Tyga’s music videos, with whom she had a relationship from 2014 to 2017.

The turning point in make-up

In 2016 she was the face of the advertising campaign of PUMA together with the music duo Rae Sremmund. Kylie Jenner’s professional breakthrough arrived in 2016, when Kylie Lip Kits, founded in 2015, became the Kylie Cosmetics, to which the online shop The Kylie Shop was added.

The Kylie Cosmetics brand includes a large assortment of make-up products, among which its famous lipsticks stand out. In 2018 the California-based company was valued by Forbes for approximately 800 million dollars and 900 million the following year. As of 2019, Kylie Jenner sold the company to Coty, one of the perfume giants for a value of 600 million dollars.

By 2017 she started a TV show with E! titled Life of Kylie. The show, which documented Kylie’s daily life between family, work and friendships, was interrupted after the first season. Also in 2017 she began her relationship with Travis Scott, with whom she had a daughter, Stormi Webster, born on the 1st of February 2018. In 2019, Jenner launched her kidswear line made up of clothing and accessories. The idea was born right after the birth of her daughter Stormi.

In 2020, Kendall and Kylie returned with a collection sold for Amazon Fashion titled The Drop by Kendall + Kylie. The limited edition collection consists of denim clothes, tie-dye prints and body cuts.

The controversies and criticisms

Throughout her career, Jenner has found herself at the centre of media attention not only for her indisputable fame but also for numerous controversies.

The first one was in January 2017, when make-up artist Vlada Haggerty accused her of plagiarizing her creative style and the aesthetics of her product advertisements. The images depicted fingers dipped in gold and lips made up of an intense red. It seems that Kylie Cosmetics misused those images by not recognizing the due credits. Later the brand seemed to have included the name of the make-up artist and then completely eliminated the image from Instagram. Eventually, Kylie Cosmetics republished the image tagging the artist.

Then it was the turn of the accusation made by Sara Pope in July 2017. The internationally renowned British artist accused Jenner of plagiarizing one of her designs depicting neon-lit lips. The artist claimed that the influencer had used a logo very similar to her designs to advertise the E! tv series.

In February 2017, Kylie Minogue won a legal battle against Kylie Jenner for using the “Kylie” brand. In 2015 Kylie Jenner applied to register the name “Kylie” to be used for “sponsorship services” and “advertising services”. The singer won the legal battle.

Kylie Jenner and the dispute with Forbes

In 2019, Forbes included Kylie Jenner on America’s Women Billionaire list, for the $ 900 million worth of her business.

However, shortly after it turned out that the inclusion was a mistake. Kylie Jenner, in fact, already owned a large sum of money thanks to the collaboration in the program Keeping Up With the Kardashians. The most widespread criticisms arose following the definition “self-made”, i.e. self-made (without family contributions) used by Forbes in describing Jenner’s entrepreneurial activity. In 2020, the American magazine effectively eliminated her from the list of billionaires accusing Kylie Jenner of having lied about her wealth.

In response to Forbes’ decision, Kylie and Kim’s representatives released a comment claiming that the sources cited by Forbes to exclude Kylie from the list were false and unsubstantiated.
