                           Huybens Ann: nature as inspiration

Huybens Ann(1962). Belgian designer. Born in Leuven, she found fashion after following an unusual path. Initially she was a dancer, then a costume designer, followed by a period as an apprentice in a dressmaking workshop. In 1990 she opened her first shop in Gent. She uses silk muslin, wool, mohair, and leather and reinvents them with dried flowers, fishbones, jelly, and feathers. She prefers round shapes, which follow a silhouette, or gothic and unstructured lines. Her inspiration lies in nature, the do-it-yourself of her childhood. Her exhibitions are real events, a cross between art and the environment. Together with the landscape architect Patrick T’Hooft, she forms the creative team of the Flemish Primitives, because “designers share one nest”.
