Perry

Michel (1949). Shoe designer, whose father was a craftsman in the same field. He is considered one of the most inspired contemporary shoe designers. He launched his first collection in 1987 after studying Fine Arts in Belgium and Paris, and then working with Philippe Model from 1983 to 1985. He produces 20,000 pairs of shoes each season which are distributed to 150 shops as well as being sold in his Paris boutique in Rue des Petits-Pères. His styles break with tradition, inventing new lines and details, and he has a clear preference for longer shapes and high heels.
&Quad; He opened his first New York store in Park Avenue at the beginning of the year. Americans soon caught on to his very feminine “not just for walk” shoes, with their pointed toes, narrow heels and rich colors. Previously just a few of his styles had been available at Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue, and for the first time New Yorkers were given access to his complete collection at this shop rather like a Salvador Dali painting.
&Quad; For his Spring-Summer 2004 collection, Perry designed some “scarf” shoes with colored fabric that wraps around the foot and ties at the calf.
