Helly Hansen

Norwegian clothing company of sportswear practised in extreme climates. The company was established in 1877 when the Navy Captain Helly Juell Hansen patented the first waterproof fabric made of bleached cloth and linseed oil. Since then the technical aspect of the clothing has increased at the same pace of experimentation. The situations that climbers can meet on mountains or sailors can encounter at sea (temperature, humidity, effects of salty or cold environments) are recreated in a laboratory. The company, which was the first to adopt three-layered clothing (technical underwear, intermediate isolation, and external protection) studied and manufactured competitive clothing for the Young America crew for the America’s Cup held in New Zealand (October 1999 to January 2000).
More than 500 Helly Hansen product lines are distributed in twenty countries for men, women, and childrenswear.
