Bermuda shorts

Bermuda shorts are trousers cut above the knees, manufactured in cotton of different weights. As in the case of the bikini, they get their name from a geographic location, in this case the coral archipelago of Bermuda in the North Atlantic, which became an American tourist destination starting in the 1930s and ’40s. They were created as a solution to a local law that did not allow women to show their legs completely naked, but they immediately became part of the men’s wardrobe, in a model with a cuff. Today, they are worn by the local inhabitants throughout the year, even with a shirt and tie. The knee-length trousers worn by colonial troops in the British Empire are modeled after Bermuda shorts. In the same period as Bermuda shorts appeared, in 1933, other shorts made their appearance, in the beginning similar to Bermudas in length, and later totally different in style and more trendy in their development.
