De Clercq

Diane De Clercq (1946). Belgian designer. She is “the one with the stripes”: never identical, in geometric shapes and infinite colors, in knitwear, pullovers, and ties. She lived in CÂte d’Azur as a child and adolescent, and remembers “I would paint on everything I saw and touched: pieces of cloth, doors, walls, materials, and fabrics.” At the age of 17, she enrolled in the School of Decorative Arts in Nice. She traveled and decided to stop in Rome, in order to grow roots there, “because Rome is pink and made for affection.” Together with a group of artisan women from Umbria, she created sweater Collections using precious and natural materials. Since 1972, she has been supported for an independent line by her sister Evelyne, and the name of the brand doubled: De Clercq-De Clercq. The Collections are sold in very small numbers in several countries, including France, the U.S., and Japan.
