Gloria Vanderbilt (1924-2019) was a fashion designer and the heir to one of the most colossal wealthy families in the United States. She lent her name, face and body to a type of jeans made by Murjani International, ‘the jeans that hug your bottom’. Since the early 1980s, Vanderbilt has been the best-selling jeans in America. That surname belongs to America’s entrepreneurial history, signing from dolls to greeting cards, from soya bean desserts to suitcases and furniture. At the end of the 1980s, following a lawsuit, Gloria Vanderbilt lost the right to use her name for her furniture and clothing line, and remains directly involved in none of these business activities.
