Gibson

Charles Dana Gibson (1867-1944). American illustrator. He is the “father” of the Gibson Girl, the independent, self-assured female who from the late 1880s up until the Belle Époque was the symbol of the American woman and inspired both a song and a Ziegfield musical. He studied at the Art Students League of New York and worked for Harper’s Bazaar, Collier’s Weekly, and Harper’s Monthly.
