Gentryportofino

Italian brand of knitwear. In 1974, Camillo Bertelli, the owner of several boutiques on the Italian Riviera, decided to challenge the British predominance in high quality knitwear and updated the traditional English artisanal models with an Italian taste. The success of the line was immediate and within a short time the business reached levels of production that required a change in organization. So in 1978 Bertelli began a partnership with Armando Poggio, the owner of a company in Genoa, the Manifattura Ligure Maglierie, which was specialized in knitwear manufacture through the cutting technique.
The Ligurian griffe, now part of It Holding, chooses a new creative director: after the long collaboration with Stefano Palatella (interrupted in Summer), the new Collections will be designed by Kim Dosa, a Korean with long experience in knitwear. The first line designed by her makes its début on the Milan prêt-à-porter runways in March 2001.
The new public face of Gentryportofino is Juliette Binoche, photographed by Peter Lindbergh. The knitwear line which made the brand famous is joined by a new clothing line, and is distributed in 380 points-of-sale all over the world.
