Dufour

Gilles. French designer. After studying philosophy, he enrolled at the École Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. He completed his education at the School of Visual Arts in New York. He was an assistant to André Oliver and, for haute couture, to Pierre Cardin. He then worked with Raymondo de Larrain, the nephew of the Marquis de Cueva, on the costumes and sets for a play. He continued to work in the theatre and cinema, often with Lagerfeld, for whom he would become a close assistant. In 1983, he began his first collaboration with Chanel, where he would become artistic director. Since 1998 he has been the designer at Balmain.
