Colangelo, Gabriele Colangelo

Colangelo, Gabriele

Gabriele Colangelo is an Italian designer born in 1975 in Bresso (MI), in a family involved in fur production. He attended Classical Studies in order to teach Greek and Latin; then he learnt as an autodidact and began entering the fashion world.

A refined minimalism

He’s sure that stylistic coherence and the presence of a common thread in every collection are important issues. His creations involve minimalism, which manages to enhance the shape, the quality of the material and the elegance, in his opinion. He really appreciates high-quality materials and furs.

His career

After some partnerships with Versace, Roberto Cavalli and Mariella Burani, which he developed himself at, in 2008 he decided to work to his first personal collection. So he went to India to study typical embroideries; when he came back, he debuted with a 40 pieces capsule collection presented at Milano Collezioni. In the same year he won Who is On Next?, a contest by Vogue Italia, and he obtained a strong visibility.

For the Fashion Night Out, he dresses a Barbie in his own dress, a unique model with miniaturized details and entirely hand-made in the same fabric.

In 2014, his talent was confirmed when he was the only Italian selected among the finalists of the LVMH Young Fashion Designer Prize. In addition to managing the brand of the same name, which offers more experimental products, he has been the creative director of Giada since 2015.
