Calvert

William Calvert (1969). American designer. He studied in Italy at the Italian Academy of Fashion in Florence and got his start in the world of Parisian couture, working for Balenciaga. In 1994, he returned to the U.S. and designed a Collection for Diane von Furstenberg. That was followed in 1996 by one for Brooks Brothers. In 1997 he founded his own brand, William Calvert. After the Autumn-Winter 1999 presentations in New York, Time magazine called him one of the most promising designers of 2000. His philosophy is: “My clothes are not made to stay on hangers in the closet.”
