Bongard

Germane Bongard (1885-1971) was a french dressmaker. She was more famous as an art dealer and collector than as a fashion designer. Sister of the renowned Poiret, who in 1909 asked her to design girl’s clothes for him, she left her brother’s atelier to open her own fashion house, expanding her interest to include the entire woman’s wardrobe. After the war, the house took the name Jove. Very keen on contemporary art, in her salon she exhibited the works of Fernand Léger and André Lhote. Later she opened the art gallery Thomas.
