Max Factor is a cosmetics company founded in Los Angeles in 1909, famous for the link that has always united it with the world of cinema. Originally from Poland, Max Factor, make-up artist and theatrical hairdresser, decided to settle in Hollywood, sensing the rapid development of the film industry and, here, created the first make-up products expressly designed for the big screen.
It is he who is responsible for the successful look of many great divas (Mae West, Jean Harlow, Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford, Lana Turner, Elizabeth Taylor) who have inspired entire generations of women. In ’18, he launched Color Harmony, the first line of cosmetics with powder, blush, lipstick and eyeshadow in coordinated colors. In ’28 it was the turn of Panchromatic Make-up which, aimed at rendering on panchromatic film, won an Academy Awards. Then, make-up for TV. Max Factor’s winning strategy, already adopted in the 1920s, is still the same today: offering women the make-up of stars. Acquired in ’91 by Procter & Gamble, the brand is now distributed in over 120 countries.
The new millennium
Another great first: in 2001 Max Factor presented “Lipinfinity”, the 12 hour long-lasting lipstick with no transfer formula. Between 2006 and 2008, one was sold around the world every 9 seconds, becoming another icon of Max Factor innovation.
In 2004 one of the most influential make-up artists in the world, Pat McGrath, signed as Global Creative Design Director.
Rajan Tolomei has been the make up artist for Italy since 2005. He began his career as a model, working and traveling all over the world and in the meantime he attended courses in different fields: from psychology, to communication, to Make Up, his true passion. His career as a Make Up Artist began by practicing Make Up on his model friends, trying to put into practice what he had learned during the courses, always relying on his instincts and his unlimited creativity.
Thanks to his great experience in fashion and Make Up, Rajan is one of the most famous Make Up Artists in Italy. Throughout his career, Rajan has worked backstage at the biggest fashion brands, including Moschino, Armani, Krizia, Roberto Cavalli, Luisa Beccaria, Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel, Ralph Lauren and recently backstage at the Victoria Secret fashion show Fashion Show as Max Factor Make-Up Artist. For three years, Rajan was also the Make Up Artist of the famous television show X-Factor Italia.
