Bidyut

Das (1977). Knitwear designer born in India. In the 1990s he moved to London where he began his studies, first in fashion and textiles at Kingsway College, and then at Central Saint Martin’s, where he specialized in knitwear, and finally a masters in Men’s Fashion Knitwear at the Royal College of Art. His art in the creation of knitwear consists of combining, blending and experimenting. In order to do so he uses different types of materials and, above all, different techniques of working — embroidery, felting, painting, printing, dyeing, and heat pressing — but without torturing the shapes, which remain quite simple. Great attention is paid to color, often combining brilliant tonalities not often found together, with the idea that color can be used as an expression of individuality. Today Bidyut is a professor at Central Saint Martin’s where he pursues a project aimed at learning and using the knitting machine. Students learn knitwear manufacturing and then they are assigned themes which they can develop freely, using also unusual materials.
