Beard

Peter Beard (1938) was an american photographer, born in New York. He studied art at Yale. His main interest wasn’t fashion, but Africa, its animals, the savannah, elephants, and crocodiles, a passion that “stuck to him” after he met the writer Karen Blixen in 1961. And it was in Africa, on a fashion assignment, that he discovered Iman, an Ethiopian, transforming her into one of the most celebrated top models of the 1970s and ’80s. In 1999, the designer Gerard Darel, famous for purchasing Jacqueline Kennedy’s pearl necklace at auction in 1996, entrusted to him the advertising campaign that featured Stephanie Seymour.
