THE FASHION ICON ANNA DELLO RUSSO WAS BORN IN BARI ON THE 9TH OF APRIL 1962, TO A BORGHESE FAMILY

Anna Dello Russo’s passion for fashion started at the age of six when she detached the labels from the clothes to collect them. She loves Barbies, she even collects accessories: from miniature Louis Vuitton bags to pearl micro-necklaces, which she still keeps at home. She distinguished herself in adolescence from her peers by wearing Versace shirts and Hermès scarves. While her mates wanted the trendy jeans of that time she wanted Armani jackets. No one could choose clothes for her, so she never liked surprise gifts. Already eccentric in high school, she was teased by her classmates for her perfectly coordinated looks.

She attended and graduated from the University of Bari in art and literature, later graduating in Milan from the Domus Academy in fashion design.

FROM VOGUE TO FASHION ICON

She’s the reference point for trendsetters all over the world. She is also known as an unchallenged icon of style in Europe as in Asia. She is loved in Los Angeles and New York. Androgynous and feminine, sophisticated and with disarming simplicity, ethereal and at the same time concrete.

Thanks to the journalist Annalisa Minella of Vogue Italia, she joined the editorial team after working for the magazine Donna. From 2000 to 2006 she was the director of Vogue Uomo.

In 2006 she became fashion director at large of Vogue Japan, the only Cortana that boasts such a high-level collaboration in fashion with a foreign newspaper. She launched her perfume, Beyond, in 2010. In 2012 she created a collection exclusively of accessories for H&M, which she considered to be real key pieces to give personality to the outfit.

Bags, bijoux, hats, shoes, and sunglasses that are characterized by that extravagant, eccentric, and over-the-top appeal that has always distinguished Anna Dello Russo. Fashion Shower is the promotional video of the capsule collection of which she is a testimonial.

She has been a style consultant for the famous chain Rosewood Hotels & Resorts since 2017.

She is among the most powerful women in the fashion world, one of the most influential, transgressive, and revolutionary.

AN ECCENTRIC LIFE

Anna defines herself as an infidel, she loves letting herself be crossed by the pleasure of the moment, by the passion for a collection, and then changing, without turning her head back. Like fashion, which changes constantly, everything is in constant and continuous movement for Dello Russo, and therefore to be unfaithful is to follow the course of things. This is why she left her husband and recycled her Dolce & Gabbana wedding dress to make curtains out of it. Because Anna is like that, constantly looking for something new.

She currently lives in Milan and owns two apartments. One where she lives and one where she keeps her collections of clothes and shoes, maniacally in order. Significantly, she hired 10 assistants who arranged and cataloged all the clothes. She has more than 4 thousand pairs of shoes. In recent years she put her clothes up for auction, and the proceeds have been donated to charity. Choosing, to never wear a dress more than once, so we can understand why she has a loft as a wardrobe.

Notably, she considers herself a health enthusiast. she doesn’t smoke and she practices yoga every day. She is a daughter of the gay culture, she loves kitsch, excesses, and the diversity of languages. There is no high or low, no good or bad, everything can coexist and find perfect harmony. Opposites that intersect. She loves bad taste and conformity, as well as the blue of the sad jackets of Italian politicians.

The work she does at Vogue Japan is to mix cultures, capture the best from each one, and interpret the concept of fusion perfectly.
