Marani, Angelo

Angelo Marani is a fashion creator, specializing in printed textiles born in 1953. In 1969, he helped found the Marex group. The printing, weaving and dye-works at the Coreggio factory were Marani’s true creative laboratories. The women’s line, which bears his name, is diffused throughout Italy and has been particularly successful in the Middle and Far East and South Africa. In September 2002, after 30 years of work, Marani presented his first female collection at Milano Moda. It included clothes made of fabrics that had undergone ageing techniques, sometimes involving three or four different procedures, before being sewn together. These fabrics were produced to order in France.

Marani’s catwalk show at Milano Moda Donna began with a hippy spirit and ended with a refined elegance. The collection was very colourful, imaginative and slightly rock-chick. It started with a series of leggings, a symbol of the 1980s, which he reinterpreted in different textiles, colors, laminated, shiny or with florals, worn instead of tights under mini-dresses, tunics with medieval patterns, evening sheath dresses. Jackets with animal-style prints were worn over cargo pants.

He died in 2016 because of a tumor.

The collections reach the single-brand showrooms, in Milan and Correggio, and the most prestigious boutiques in the world, in the most exclusive cities and tourist resorts: from Paris to the French Riviera, from Moscow to Taipei, from Saint Barth to Dubai.

In 2014, the company presents its spectacular Cine Marani capsule: 10 historical outfits from 2002 – the year of his first fashion show in Milan – to 2014. All pieces inspired by his great passion for legendary actresses and movie posters.

In 2011, at the Palazzo dei Principi in Correggio, the exhibition “Angelo Marani per Mimmo Rotella” opens. The exhibition marks the meeting between the talent of the stylist and the artist, displaying clothes dedicated to the creative tear and the most famous posters of the author.

Today the company and the creative flair is carried on by his daughters, Giulia and Martina, and his wife Anita Lini.
