VINTED IS AN E-COMMERCE APP FOR THE SALE OF USED CLOTHES CREATED IN 2008
Vinted was created in 2008, in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, from an idea of Milda Mitkute and Justas Jankauskas. The platform was created to easily dispose of all excess clothing left in the closets. The reselling mechanism on which the platform is based allows, in addition to optimizing space, also to easily and immediately obtain payments, but above all it allows fashion to become more sustainable. Since the production of new clothes has one of the strongest environmental impacts on the planet, selling used clothes in good conditions is a winning idea. Environmental ethics, accessibility to products and affordable prices have determined the success of the project, in fact, just two years later the site debuted in Germany and then in the United States.
In 2012, the official app was launched and sales increased dramatically with over 90% of traffic coming from mobile phones; in a short time, the app also landed in France, the United Kingdom, Austria, the Czech Republic and Poland and reached thirty million users at the end of 2020.

It debuted in Italy in December 2020 with the slogan “Don’t Wear It? Sell It!” and it became the most downloaded app in just two weeks, perhaps also due to the lockdown at the time.
“The launch in Italy is an exciting step for us, as it is a leading market in the fashion industry with significant potential for the sale and purchase of items,” commented Thomas Plantenga, CEO of Vinted.
Vinted’s offices are located in Berlin, Prague and San Francisco and have over 600 employees. Between January 2020 and January 2021, users went from 30 to 37 million. In France, its first market, the figure went from 12 to 16 million. As of 2019 it recorded a turnover of 1.3 billion euros.
