Verino

Roberto Verino (1945). Spanish fashion designer. He was born in VerÕn in Ourense, where his parents owned a company that manufactured articles of leather goods. After finishing his business studies, he decided to move to Paris to follow his dream of attending the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1967 he returned to Spain to run the family company. In 1982 he presented his first collection of prêt-à-porter womenswear with his own name, and later took part in various specialty salons (Milan, Paris, Monte Carlo). In these years he also opened his own showroom and his first boutique in Paris. In 1984, his collections were presented first in Barcelona and then in Madrid, at the Pasarela Cibeles. His Fall-Winter 1990-91 collection was also presented at the CPD in Dusseldorf, Germany and, that same year (1990), Verino was appointed president of the AsociaciÆn EspaŒola de Prêt-à-Porter Femenino. In 1991 he received the Bailey’s prize for the best Spring-Summer 1992 collection presented at the Pasarela Cibeles and the renowned T assigned by the magazine Telva, which he went on to win again in later seasons. In 1992 he opened his first boutique in Madrid and also received the prestigious Aguja de oro (Golden Needle) award. In 1999 he founded the AsociaciÆn de Creadores de Mode de EspaŒa together with Jesus del Pozo, Angel Schlesser, Antonio Pernas and Modesto Lomba. In 2000 he launched his prêt-à-porter menswear line and began distribution of his collections in prestigious sales outlets such as Harrods in London, Saks and Bergdorf Goodman in New York. He now has 53 boutiques in Spain while there are 46 more inside the department stores of the El Corte Inglés chain.
