Tolentino, Gianni
Gianni Tolentino is an Italian fashion designer, born in Milan in 1947.
A premature passion for fashion
Gianni Tolentino developed his passion for fashion when he was a child: he was fascinated by fabrics and colors he saw in his aunt’s tailor’s shop and he loved to walk in front of the Scala Theater to admire the dresses of the ladies.
He studied paint and scenography at Accademia di Brera, then he attended the Istituto Marangoni and worked as apprentice at Dior, Mila Schön and Emilio Pucci. Later, in 1980, he decided to work on his own and to present his collections autonomously, collecting an ever-growing success.
The research for quality
Gianni Tolentino believes that, when you create an item, everything starts from the fabric: so he gives great attention to the choice of raw materials, from Como silks to French embroideries.
Nowadays he is consultant for lyric theaters and film studios for costumes; furthermore, in his atelier, he hosts a niche clientele, grown in the years, which looks for exclusive custom-made garments. He realized items for many divas, among which Carla Fracci, Valentina Cortese, Marina Ripa di Meana and countess Donatella Pucci Blunt.
A polyhedral artist
Gianni Tolentino experience isn’t limited to garments’ creation, but it widely ranges in the world of art: his passion made him win a Leone d’Oro because of the costumes he realized for Venice Carnival; it made him realize many artworks in the city of Vercelli and, starting from the 2019 pandemic, made him dedicate much more time to furniture and interior design: his products received many appreciations at the Salone del Mobile.
