Tilberis

Liz Tilberis (1948-1999). American journalist, editor of Harper’s Bazaar. Born in England, she began her career in fashion magazines in 1974, when she joined Vogue England, where she moved up the editorial chain until she became editor-in-chief. In 1991 she was hired to manage Condé Nast. She became the editor of Harper’s Bazaar in 1992, on the day that Hearst Magazines celebrated its 125th anniversary in publishing. She expanded the horizons of the New York-based magazine, introducing artistic themes journalism at the highest levels. She was diagnosed with cancer in 1992, and spent the last years of her life working vigorously on behalf of the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, while also editing her magazine till the day she died. She told the story of her disease and the fight against cancer in her book No Time to Die (Little, Brown Co, 1998).
