Terragni

Manufacturing company producing silk and velvet fabrics. The Terragni Co. was founded in 1925, but it grew out of a partnership with the same name already working in Como at the turn of the century. The company was run by Alessandro Terragni who, in collaboration with his brother Antonio and his nephew Giuseppe, had established his “base” in Como. In 1932 the second generation of the Terragni family took over. At the beginning of the 1940s, there was a substantial increase in production and turnover. Most of that increase came from the “house specialties”: silks for apparel, religious paraments, and material for flags and banner, but also fabrics for women’s apparel, at a less exclusive level. In 1949, a printing facility was added to the weaving mills, which made it possible to move into the sector of women’s “fashion” apparel. In 1962, the Terragni company became an S.p.A., a corporation held in shares, and then folded entirely in 1974.
