Stucchi

Silk mill founded in 1870 by Edoardo Stucchi that expanded when a factory was built in Lurate-Caccivio in 1893. The excellent quality of its silks meant that they were exported across the world and that the company won the Grand Prize at the Universal Exhibition in 1900. Stucchi had more than 1,000 employees in 1934 when the company was at the peak of its success. For the majority of the 20th century, Stucchi represented the prestige of the Como silk industry, which focused on the spinneret, the wealth of its silk worms, and the value of the silk mill. Then, due to a change in the market, decline set in for the industry. The Tessile Operati agency intervened, taking over a part of the old building that housed all the looms, and eventually bought the brand itself. Today Tessile Operati is known for its production of raw silk, which is sold in the Como region.
