Sloppy Joe

Baggy woolen sweater that was very fashionable in the 1940s and 1950s. In the period between the end of World War II and the birth of the New Look, as a controversial response to excessive elegance and the luxury of haute couture, two versions of this wide and enormously long sweater were worn: as a round or V-neck. An informal garment, its extreme measurements and softness provided a good contrast with the extremely tight-fitting pants with which it was worn.
