Egidio (1894-1966). Italian photographer. He worked in Paris. Around 1920, he had the idea of using different European countries as settings for his fashion photographs. The dramatic lighting of his images, in which the figures were sometimes masked in cellophane, won him the reputation of being considered Steichen’s best follower in Europe. In 1929, he went into business with John de Forest Thompson, with whom he opened a studio in London, but this was destroyed during a bombing raid in 1940. His black-and-white photographs, heavily retouched and art deco in style, were largely inspired by Steichen and Baron de Meyer. His photographs were published by Time and Fortune magazines.”
