René Mancini

René Mancini: Footwear maison

Shoemaker founded in Paris in 1936 by the Italian shoemaker of that name who had emigrated to France. The house offered both shoes at accessible prices and more refined models. The latter models, which had come to the attention of Balmain’s mother, allowed Mancini to win commissions from major fashion houses that in time became regular clients – among others, Givenchy, Balenciaga, Scherrer and Chanel. His famous Chanel sandal dates from the end of the 1950s. Over the course of a few years, the international beau mondecame knocking at the door of his atelier: from Jackie Kennedy and Caroline of Monaco to Garbo and Callas. In the 1960s Mancini began a mass production of luxury shoes. Today, the company, under the leadership of his children Alain and Claire, distributes collections in France through more than 30 boutiques.
